This person will be confidently responsible for coordination of bids, estimates and tenders, including assessment of scope of work and documentation associated with tendering. Analyse drawings, specifications and proposals of major engineering projects, work closely with clients, design team, the workshop and management!

We are on the lookout for a self-motivated Engineering Estimator to join a Christchurch-based engineering business. You will be responsible for the preparation and pricing of competitive, comprehensive, and commercially sustainable tenders using your fabricated steel & mechanical knowledge to drive this sole charge position in the estimating office. Be a self-starter and able to develop systems.

This sole-charge position reports directly to the Operations Manager, and will also be expected to effectively manage the typical range of QS functions including responding to tenders, job scheduling and job-sheeting, bills of materials and ordering, job monitoring and documentation, invoicing, back costing, and professional liaison with both suppliers and customers.

Your role will involve working with our Design engineering team, Workshop team and customers to review specifications and propose suitable products. Proficiency in MS Excel and strong communication skills are essential for success in this position.

You will be able to tick the following boxes:

  • Proven practical experience in the QS/estimator functions, preferably gained within the industrial engineering/fabrication sector.
  • Formal QS and/or trade qualifications would be considered an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of NZ/AS standards and mechanical specs.
  • An experienced user of Microsoft Suite
  • Very good communication skills (verbal and written) at all levels.
  • A well-developed awareness of good Health and Safety practices in a manufacturing environment.
  • A constructive organiser and influencer who enjoys 'making things happen'.
  • Current legal right to work permanently in NZ.

On the day-to-day you will be:

  • Building positive customer relationships for high-quality service.
  • Managing project data updates by the engineering team.
  • Completing and reviewing tender take-offs and pricing packages.
  • Submitting and presenting tender pricing packages to customers.
  • Reviewing technical specs to identify suitable products and ensure compliance.
  • Coordinating awarded tenders for project scheduling and stock forecasting.
  • Reporting monthly on engineering KPIs.
  • Be office-based 8 am - 4.30 pm Monday to Friday.
