CNC Machinist

CNC Machinist

External Role until 25 Apr 2026

Due to continued growth and exciting new products, we're expanding our evening shift to better meet demand and support continued growth. We're looking for a versatile and experienced machinist to join our team working, Monday - Thursday 12:00-22:30.

We are seeking someone who can confidently set and operate lathes, mills, and mill/turns. Our workshop is equipped with Victor, Mazak, DMG, Takisawa, and Hartford machines.

If you have programming experience — particularly with GibbsCAM or Mazak and DMG controls — that would be a strong bonus, but it is not essential.

WGD is a tight-knit team of 12 tradesmen and apprentices, part of the wider Dodson Group — a well-capitalized, KiwiSaver-backed manufacturer investing heavily into advanced technology. Recent upgrades include new Mazak lathes, a Hartford mill, and an Aberlink CMM, with further machines and automation planned.

If you are a passionate machinist who enjoys variety, takes pride in quality work, and wants to be part of a company competing on the world stage, we would love to hear from you.

Requirements for the role include:

  • Experience in CNC programming (Gibbs CAM preferred)

  • Turning and/or Mill/Turn experience preferred but we have a variety of 3 axis and 5 axis mills as well

  • Experience setting and operating multiple types of CNC machines

  • Ability to consult across the Group with Dodson and AH Gears design engineers on manufacturability

  • Ability to work both autonomously, and as a team player

  • Willingness to learn new practices and to share of knowledge, particularly with apprentices

  • Strong health & safety practices

The workshop is generally accessible between 6am and 4:30pm on weekdays and for the majority of the day on Saturdays for flexible working hours and/or overtime. Overtime (above 40 hours) is generally available on weekdays and weekends and paid at 20% vs base rate (negotiable based on experience).

We treat our staff very well and offer side benefits such as discounts on car parts and service (through Dodson), 1-week fully paid maternity/paternity leave supplement, a discount for Booster KiwiSaver members, and flexibility with use of leave entitlements. We would also consider covering relocation costs for the right candidate.
