Survey Technician - Queenstown

Survey Technician - Queenstown

External Role until 11 Mar 2026

If you’re a Survey Technician who enjoys variety, problem-solving and the challenge of working on some of the region’s most interesting sites, Queenstown is a place where your skills genuinely stretch and grow. At Patersons, you’ll work with land that keeps you thinking - from heritage-rich sites like Ayrburn to complex hillside builds and fast-moving developments across the Wakatipu Basin.

You’ll join a close, down-to-earth local team backed by the resources of a long-established, people-first consultancy. It’s the kind of environment where you’re trusted, supported, and encouraged to keep developing your craft — all while enjoying the lifestyle that makes Queenstown special.

What the role offers

  • A mix of field and office work across topographical surveys, construction set-out, monitoring, as-builts and cadastral tasks.

  • Exposure to technically interesting work in varied terrain.

  • The chance to learn from experienced surveyors who genuinely enjoy supporting the next generation.

  • Relocation support for the right person.

  • A work culture built on trust, openness and pitching in together.

You’ll be using 12d and Landonline, producing accurate, reliable data that helps our engineers, planners and clients move their projects forward with confidence. You’ll also help ensure consent conditions are met through surveys and site inspections, so an eye for detail is essential.

What you’ll bring

  • At least 2 years’ experience as a Survey Technician.

  • Field and office experience within land development.

  • Competency in 12d.

  • Knowledge of the RMA and how it applies to subdivision and land development.

  • A practical mindset, great communication skills and genuine pride in the accuracy of your work.

  • Cadastral or drone/laser scanning experience is a bonus.

If you enjoy the balance of technical challenge, fresh air, and making a real contribution to your local region, you’ll fit right in.
