About Us

We are a Christchurch-based construction and development business delivering commercial, accommodation and institutional projects across Canterbury.

Due to current project demands, we are seeking a Construction Project Manager on a fixed-term basis to support delivery of active commercial builds.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone with strong site-based experience who can manage programme, subcontractors and day-to-day delivery performance.


The Role

Reporting to the General Manager – Construction & Delivery, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of assigned projects from construction phase through to completion.

You will work closely with site teams and the commercial team to ensure programme performance, build quality and cost alignment.

This role requires regular site presence.


Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery

  • Manage construction projects to achieve completion dates

  • Develop and maintain detailed construction programmes

  • Coordinate trades and sequencing of works

  • Identify programme risks and implement corrective actions

  • Lead site meetings and contractor coordination

Subcontractor & Site Management

  • Oversee subcontractor performance and compliance

  • Ensure scope alignment with commercial agreements

  • Monitor site productivity and quality standards

  • Maintain strong on-site leadership presence

Commercial Coordination

  • Work with Commercial & Contracts Manager on variations and claims

  • Ensure site instructions impacting cost are documented

  • Support accurate progress reporting and forecasting

Safety & Quality

  • Maintain high Health & Safety standards

  • Ensure compliance with drawings and specifications

  • Manage defect resolution and practical completion processes


About You

Experience

  • 10+ years’ experience in commercial construction

  • Proven delivery of medium-scale commercial or institutional projects

  • Strong subcontractor management background

  • Experience working in a main contractor environment

Skills

  • Able to develop and manage construction programmes

  • Practical problem solver

  • Calm under pressure

  • Strong communication skills with site teams and consultants

This role will not suit someone from a purely consultancy or office-based background.

Fixed term position aligned to current project programme (with potential extension subject to workload).
