About the role

As the Small Projects Team Leader, you will oversee the successful delivery of Apex Water’s small water and wastewater treatment projects, leading a multidisciplinary team responsible for delivering projects from concept through to commissioning and handover.

This role provides technical, commercial and delivery oversight across multiple concurrent design-and-build projects, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. You will lead the Small Projects team, supporting project managers, engineers, graduates, and technical specialists to deliver outcomes that meet client expectations and company objectives.

Reporting to the Project Delivery Manager, you will coordinate concept development, design reviews, procurement, construction activities, and commissioning processes while ensuring strong governance across project budgets, schedules, and quality standards.

You will also play a key role in building team capability, strengthening collaboration across Apex Water’s design and delivery functions, and supporting continuous improvement in project delivery processes.


What you'll be doing

  • Lead the successful delivery of water and wastewater treatment projects from concept design through to construction, commissioning and handover.

  • Oversee project planning and execution, ensuring scopes, schedules, budgets and resources are effectively managed.

  • Provide technical and delivery oversight across civil, process, mechanical, electrical and automation inputs to ensure solutions are robust and fit for purpose.

  • Lead and support the Small Projects team, allocating workloads, mentoring team members, and building team capability.

  • Monitor project financial performance, including budgets, cost forecasts and project margins.

  • Coordinate design reviews, procurement activities and project documentation to ensure compliance and constructability.

  • Build strong relationships with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.

  • Promote safe project delivery and continuous improvement across design, delivery and project management processes.

You’re an experienced engineering or project delivery professional who enjoys leading teams and delivering complex infrastructure projects. You combine strong technical understanding with commercial awareness and leadership capability to drive successful project outcomes.

You thrive in a collaborative environment, enjoy mentoring others, and are passionate about delivering high-quality infrastructure solutions for water and wastewater treatment. Ideally you’ll bring:

  • 5–10+ years’ experience in engineering, project management, or construction delivery within infrastructure or water-related projects.

  • Strong experience delivering multiple concurrent projects, ideally in water or wastewater treatment environments.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing small teams or multidisciplinary project groups.

  • Strong understanding of project planning, scheduling, budgeting and risk management.

  • Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes, including chemicals, storage and handling.

  • Experience working with engineering design teams, contractors and suppliers across the project lifecycle.

  • Strong understanding of construction health and safety practices and regulatory requirements.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.

  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach, with strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
