FTSL is an IANZ-accredited laboratory of fire resistance testing. The FTSL accreditation scope includes AS 1530.4, as well as BS, EN, ISO, EFNARC, and Efectis testing methods.
These tests evaluate how materials and construction elements perform when exposed to fire, including their ability to maintain integrity during a fire event. The data obtained supports the assessment of system fire performance against building design requirements and relevant standards.
Opportunity
We are seeking a Fire Testing and Assessment Engineer for our testing and assessment division. The primary focus of this position will be:
assisting with testing,
compiling test reports,
authoring technical assessments for fire-resistant systems and products.
This position is ideal for someone with a strong engineering background—preferably in fire engineering - who has exceptional technical writing skills and strong attention to detail. You will work with fire testing data, engineering drawings and certification reports for tested systems / solutions. You will be the one to ensure that our clients receive accurate, reliable document(s) that meet the requirements of the BC of New Zealand and the Australian NCC.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with test preparations on the floor.
Participate in fire testing.
Interpret fire testing data.
Prepare test reports.
Review documentation before assessing passive fire systems.
Write Assessments
Ensure all assessments comply with the relevant standards of NZBC and Australian NCC.
Liaise with internal engineers and external clients to clarify technical details and requirements.
Conduct inspections and site surveys.
Skills, Experience & Education:
Essential:
A tertiary qualification in Engineering (Fire Engineering degree is a preferred one), Building Science, or a related technical field.
Demonstrated experience in a technical role within the construction or engineering industry.
Exceptional technical writing skills with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly and accurately.
High level of attention to detail and analytical skills.
Strong understanding of technical drawings and specifications.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
CAD software
Preferred (Not Essential):
Direct experience in passive fire protection or fire safety engineering.
Familiarity with the building regulatory environments in New Zealand and/or Australia.
Experience writing assessment reports, technical opinions, or similar documentation.
