Venues Ōtautahi own and manage the Christchurch Town Hall and Wolfbrook Arena, and manage Apollo Projects Stadium, Hagley Oval, the Air Force Museum of NZ and One New Zealand Stadium (due to open in April 2026).

About the role

Although the job title is Financial Accountant, this role covers a variety of tasks with an average month likely to also include tasks that you would associate with management accounting and business partnering, as well as the opportunity to get stuck into systems and analytics.

You will play a critical role in supporting our financial operations and strategic decision-making processes. You will provide comprehensive financial insights, drive innovation, and ensure our processes align with financial policies and best management practices.

Key responsibilities of the position are as follows:

  • Deliver accurate financial accounting services, including month-end processes, reconciliations, and fixed asset management.
  • Prepare financial statements, ensure audit compliance, and manage tax obligations (GST, FBT, Income Tax).
  • Assist with budget preparation and financial analysis to support organisational goals.
  • Lead or support financial process improvements and system upgrades.
  • Support delivery of projects within the organisation.
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal teams and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare bi-annual and annual reports.

About you

You will have a strong work ethic, outstanding communication skills, and motivation to provide excellent customer service.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A high degree of proficiency in financial reporting, with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and tax beneficial
  • At least 4 years of practical accounting experience
  • Membership of Chartered Accountants Australia New Zealand (or equivalent) is highly desirable
  • Experience using Momentus (formerly known as Ungerbock) would be advantageous (but definitely not essential)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • A positive attitude, with the desire to roll your sleeves up and get stuck in as the business grows with the opening of One New Zealand Stadium

This role would suit a recently qualified accountant looking for their first commercial role, or a more experienced professional seeking a role with wider scope.
