Based in the South Island, you’ll play an important role supporting customers across a range of industries—including food & beverage, dairy, healthcare, manufacturing, and energy.

This role includes occasional travel to the North Island, and some overnight stays as required to support customer service and project commitments.  On a typical year , you will spend approximately 50 nights away from home , peaking at about 10 nights on some months.

About the Role

Reporting to the National Sales and Service Manager, you will be responsible for carrying out service, audits, maintenance, installation, and system improvement work on customer steam and thermal energy systems. You’ll help maintain Spirax Sarco’s strong reputation by delivering high-quality technical service, supporting customers on site, and ensuring our solutions operate safely and efficiently.

This is a hands-on role ideal for someone mechanically minded, safety focused, and comfortable working independently at customer sites.

Key Responsibilities

Service & Technical Work

  • Conduct service, maintenance, repairs, and commissioning on steam and thermal energy equipment.

  • Diagnose faults and carry out remedial work on plant and associated systems.

  • Assist with shutdown planning and execution—especially during the dairy off‑season and other seasonal operations.

  • Perform mechanical tasks including maintaining and repairing steam and related equipment.

  • Ensure tools, equipment, and spare parts are maintained and available.

Customer Engagement & Coordination

  • Liaise with engineering teams, maintenance staff, and other client stakeholders.

  • Identify plant improvement opportunities and collaborate with sales and technical teams.

  • Prepare service documentation, reports, costings, and quotations accurately and on time.

Compliance & Safety

  • Work within legislative, OH&S, ISO9001, and company policy requirements.

  • Always maintain and use appropriate PPE.

  • Report hazards, incidents, and near-misses promptly and contribute to our strong safety culture.

  • Stop work if unsafe and advocate for safe practices.

What We’re Looking For

  • Mechanical aptitude and experience in service, maintenance, or industrial engineering environments.

  • Ability to work independently on customer sites.

  • Strong problem‑solving and diagnostics capability.

  • Good communication skills and comfort liaising with customers at all levels.

  • Full NZ driver’s licence.

  • Willingness to travel and stay away from home when required.

Experience with steam systems, boilers, or industrial utilities will be a strong advantage—but training can be provided for the right candidate.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary + allowances

  • Training and professional development within a global leader in steam engineering

  • Supportive team environment

  • Variety in daily work across different industries and customer sites

  • Opportunities to grow into specialist or senior technical roles
